One word - INCREDIBLE !! It was simply amazing - but no connection to the outside world - no TV, no internet - so that's why I've been off line lately.
If you EVER have the chance - I would say to go to Yellowstone. Try to stay at the Old Faithful Inn - it was built in 1904, and is in a great location for sites. Or you could try the Canyon area - as that's pretty fantastic too. Words just can't describe how beautiful this place is and what it offers in terms of natural beauty. The average temp is 39, and in the summer it gets to highs in the low 70s - but starts out the morning in the 30s with frost. You should do a Ranger lead program - it's so informative and these people love what they do.
Getting there was fun too - we went through the Big Horn Forrest - which had beautiful mountains and we were 8,800+ elevation. Then once we entered the park we saw Big Horn sheep - I've posted a pic - so look for the sheep in the lower left hand corner. It was raining when we got there Friday night - but it gave an eery feeling - and we were able to get some really neat pics. The next day we went on a geyser tour with a Ranger, saw hot springs, mud pots, Morning Glory hot spring - which has been ruined by garbage - couldn't get as brilliant a shot as I would have liked.
We saw snow on the mountains in the background - saw Lower Falls by the Canyon which is 300 feet, twice as long as Niagara. Then we went by the Lake - and when we left today we went to Mammoth Springs. All of this was just awe inspiring. LOVED the place.
We're in Butte, MT. Have to say - getting to Yellowstone we went through Wyoming. It has to be one of the poorest states. It was just depressing. Montana is not that - it has less people per area - but it's more concentrated - the cities are bigger. In WY we actually went through cities that had a population of 500 or 800 - it was just sad.
Tomorrow - we're off to Seattle. If its anything like Yellowstone - to exceed my expectations - it should be a wonderful time. Please look at the pics - we had a hard time picking the ones we posted - hope you enjoy.
